Rather claimed that the documents were authenticated, when NO such authentications were undertaken.AND there were document experts AT CBS who told Rather that the documents could be forgeries, BEFORE he reported on it. The documents were subsequently proven, by multiple forensic examiners, to be forgeries.
Doesn’t matter if the documents had words on them which may or may not have been true statements: when Rather reported his “news” he had not proven ANYthing, he KNEW he had not proven anything, and yet he ran it ANYway.
Shoddy journalism from a “network anchor” who was FINALLY shown as the joke he was

And how did you know it was not proven? The worst you could say is that he made a good faith mistake. The information on that sheet was a hand-made copy of the original. Your comparison is invalid. It’s like blaming one cop for not being able to read the handwriting of another cop even though they got the right address for the warrant.

Are you serious? Rather got cashiered for promoting a story he KNEW was NOT proven. Whether someone could prove it later (or not) is beside the point – it’s like a policeman stopping and searching someone without probable cause; even if the party the policeman stops is LATER put on an APB and a warrant issued, the policeman didn’t have cause to stop them WHEN THEY DID IT.
Rather’s bias was disgustingly obvious – which he proved when he gushed his support for Pres. Clinton on a live feed after his election….

The FCC does not regulate cable TV, hence, the viewers need to be discriminating. You have to watch both left and right to get the unvarnished truth. Watch Fox if you want the right side. If you want the left side, watch ABC, CBS, or CNN. If you want the far left, watch NBC. If you want the extreme left, watch MSNBC or Current TV. Simple.

What Americans don’t understand and Fox news is pushing really hard is that there’s no difference between bias and propaganda. You can have a bias for chocolate but until you lie and cheat to get people to eat chocolate also it’s just a bias. Rachel Maddow admits to having a liberal bias, but she doesn’t make up lies to convince you to believe what she says. When news personalities make mistakes it’s usually to the benefit of their bias that’s only human. The propaganda we see on FOX News and Rush Limbaugh, is systematically designed to trick you into believing something that is not true. A good example was when Fox news continually repeated the claim that Obama took the work requirement out of welfare. The same claim was repeated hour after hour from show to show, it was clearly designed to mislead and truck people.
It’s a false equivalency, to compare MSNBC to Fox news, yes MSNBC is biased liberal, but they are not a propaganda network. Since I’m concerned with the truth, if I found out that Rachel Maddow or Chris Hayes we’re feeding me misinformation they would lose me as a viewer.
