The question of how nations can act as a nation and not just to say yes to whatever US would say is a matter of choice. The world has been conditioned in a way that would only allow countries to side with the free nation or the communists as a condition set by the world wars and the cold war. Many do believes that America is the great protector and leaving America is putting your country and your country in great peril. Lately due to the opening of China and Russia and other socialist or communist blocks to world trade has changed the scenario. Nevertheless the impending conflict between the Muslim extremists and the peaceful world may create the same scenario.

Well duh. This is kind of thee ENTIRE point of the monetary system. Having a fiat monetary system allows the government to provide guns and butter without the people realizing they’re being taxed through inflation. It simply would not have been possible for the US to engage in ANY of the wars of the 20th century without the world accepting its green paper as gold.
