3. Obama Authorizes International Assassination Campaign

The Obama administration has quietly put into practice an ‘incomplete idea’ left over from the Bush II presidency: creating a de facto ‘presidential international assassination program.’ Court documents, evidence offered by Human Rights Watch and a special United Nations report allege that US citizens suspected of encouraging “terror” had been put on “death lists.” These reports  say Obama’s Director of National Intelligence assured a congressional hearing that the program was within the rights of the executive branch of the government and did not need to be revealed. At least two people are known to have been murdered by Central Intelligence Agency operatives under the program. When the program was challenged in a New York City court the judge refused to rule, saying, “There are circumstances in which the executive’s decision to kill U.S. citizens overseas is constitutionally committed to the political branches and judicially unreviewable.”

well technically if you conspire against your own country, its treason. i am pretty sure the penalty on the books for treason is execution. so i am not sure how illegal this is. immoral, possibly, illegal, not sure.

  • tonebone

hey Been There, can I have your civil and human rights, since you don’t seem to be using yours?
American-born citizens are afforded Due Process by the Constitution and Bill of Rights, NO MATTER WHAT THE INFRACTION OR ALLEGATION. Stepping-over those rights and assassinating  a US citizen is just as treasonous as any alleged act of citizen terror.

  • mountainbiker

Just because someone accuses another of treason, doesn’t make it true.  That is why we have due process.  Extralegal is illegal.

  • Liberty Fighter

The fact that the Lamestream Media isn’t covering this, proves they are covering for that piece of human filth, 0bama.

  • Rick

That’s not true because the guy they just killed in Yemen, who was born in the US, basically gave up his rights by leaving the country, publicly making threats and supporting violence/terrorism against the US and innocent people.  The US has proof of this.  He would have had the due process if he stayed here but it is quite clear that he was living overseas as a foreigner with another citizenship and forfeited his US rights.  He got what was coming to him.

  • Canobs

So, USA logically gave themselves the right with their own laws to kill anybody, US citizen or not, as long as he is killed in another independent sovereign,  invaded or not (liberated, as they say)  country.   Maybe by the patriot act or the torture standardization law of the BushCheneyRumsfeld murderers clan.

this year alone, the administration pushed for the ability to imprison US citizens indefinitely without trial; they got it. today, the Fed Aviation announced lowering laws to permit extensive use of DRONES in the USA. the administration furthered the laws that BUSH put into place and implemented rules and autrocities that Bush didn’t do. When Bush did it he was perceived as EVIL, the “liberal” and democrats shamed him, but now Obama does it and they are all happily quiet.  hypocrisy! (as for me, i am of no “party”). US citizens have to get that violating their civil rights now to “protect” them against the “baddies” cannot be changed once the rulers redefine who is a “baddie”; thats the most important part. If you don’t have capacity to feel others suffering, then see deeply that once the right is taken away, it will not be returned, and as “baddie” is redefined, you will be next.

This notion was cemented by the assassination of  Anwar al-Awlaki, a US citizen by his own government. This is also proof that the constitution isn’t worth the paper it’s written if the Government sees it like that. I have no sympathy for Awlaki and maybe he got what he deserved… but that isn’t my call. He should have been protected by US law until convicted. In this day and age, no one is safe.

proof? what proof? there is none. zero. try again. when asked about proof the obama administration had nothing. or would you like to cite your sources that don’t exist?

No matter which example case you look at – the Yemen man, or any other, the point is that it violates our Constitution that we hold dear as Americans. If our own President can do this – the President of the United States – a country that goes to war in order to promote peace and to protect others – it makes you wonder what else our government does behind our backs. This story is far from over I think, but I’m glad that already it has caused a good debate here.

Trust me as a liberal I’m equally offended by all this, I’m just trying to find where this is even constitutional, because it is full on garbage.

Just read a new book, Wealth vs.
Work: How 1% Victimize 99%. It’s about the vanishing

American dream- a shrinking middle class, increased poverty
and inequality. It’s about a return to the old aristocratic order, a world
where hereditary privilege and power trump excellence and merit and where
ordinary people, and those who are less able and less vigorous, are trampled by
greed, materialism and crony capitalism. It’s about Wall Street vs. Main Street, and
about the economic decline of labor unions and working people. It’s a gritty
    book!
