Please join Mickey Huff, Andy Roth, Peter Phillips, and many other writers and researchers who contributed to the new Censored 2013 yearbook.

From signs of an emerging police state, to NATO war crimes in Libya, and FBI responsibility for a majority of terrorist plots in the US, the 2013 edition of Censored: Dispatches from the Media Revolution reports the News That Didn’t Make the News and analyzes why. The book’s additional chapters include original analysis on drones and targeted killing, “GuatánamoSpeak,” the democracy movement in Kashmir, corporate education “reform,” the status of Iraqi refugees, the 1970 Kent State massacre, and the global network of the ruling 1%. Each chapter deconstructs the official narratives and propagandized news frames featured in corporate news coverage. Censored 2013 also includes the latest on Junk Food News and News Abuse and updates from last year’s top censored stories.

Code Pink Anti-Drone Delegation to Pakistan Members to Speak at Sonoma State University November 7, 7:00 PM

SF Bay Area Code Pink activists, Barbara Briggs-Letson, Toby Blome and Dianne Budd have just returned from the October 3-10 anti-drone peace delegation trip to Pakistan. They were part of a group that attempted a massive march to Waziristan to protest the US uses of drones in the region and the continuing civilian deaths.

Join Project Censored and contributors to the 2013 edition of Censored: Dispatches from the Media Revolution in celebrating the new book’s publication. The event is free and open to the public.

From signs of an emerging police state, to NATO war crimes in Libya, and education “reform” as a Trojan horse for privatization, Censored 2013: Dispatches from the Media Revolution features Project Censored’s annual list of the top 25 underreported news stories for 2011-2012, and it analyzes underlying patterns in those stories in the form of Censored News Clusters.

Censored 2013 acclaims the importance of independent journalism for democratic self-government, and it holds to account the corporate media for their failure to provide the public with complete, relevant news coverage.

Colonel Ann Wright is a former United States Army colonel and a U.S. diplomat who resigned in opposition to the Iraq War; one of three State Department officials to publicly resign in protest of the March 2003 invasion of Iraq. She was on the May 2010 Freedom Flotilla I, attacked by the Israeli military, and was an organizer for the US Boat to Gaza in the 2011 Freedom Flotilla II.

Gaza’s Ark is a new initiative to challenge the illegal and inhumane Israeli blockade of Gaza, the only Mediterranean port closed to shipping. The Canadian Boat to Gaza, in cooperation with internationals in the US, Australia and other countries, will build a boat in Gaza, using existing resources. A crew of internationals and Palestinians will sail it out of Gaza carrying Palestinian products to fulfil trade deals with international buyers. David Barsamian is the founder and director of the award-winning Alternative Radio, www.alternativeradio.org, based in Boulder, CO. For now more than 25 years, David has brought alternative perspectives from leading activists, academics and writers on current events, issues, history and more in this weekly radio program, each broadcast an antidote to the propaganda heard on the mainstream media.

The weekly program airs on public and community radio stations across the U.S., Canada, and Australia. In the Bay Area AR airs on KALW 91.7 FM, Mondays 1-2 pm. David has done a series of books with Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Tariq Ali, Arundhati Roy, Eqbal Ahmad and Edward Said. His latest book with Chomsky is How the World Works. In late September he was deported from India, the world’s largest democracy.
