Welcome to the Morning Mix, this is the Project Censored Show on Pacifica Radio, I’m Mickey Huff in studio with Peter Phillips. Today we spend the hour with Kenn Burrows and special guests on the Gandhi-King Season for Non-Violence (Jan. 30 – April 4): a 64-day educational and grassroots campaign dedicated to demonstrating that nonviolence is a powerful way to transform, and empower our lives. We also welcome to the show Mitch Hall, a children’s rights advocate, yoga teacher and peace scholar, who will address Why Gun Control is Not Enough — Underlying Causes & Remedies for Direct Violence. During the 2^nd half of the show we will interview Renee Soule’ who teachs Non-Violent Communications at San Quentin State Prison; and we speak with two San Franciso State University students, Nic Rogoff and Vonique Strickland. Welcome to the Morning Mix. This is the Project Censored Show on Pacifica Radio. I’m Mickey Huff, my co-host Peter Phillips is out this week. Today’s program- Higher Education and Academic Freedom Under Attack. We look at the corporate attack on public education via the Trojan Horse of the so-called “Reform” Movement and we examine the state academic freedom in the US as we speak with a professor who has challenged the status quo on official narratives in recent history. We’ll hear from Prof. Adam Bessie on GERM Warfare; and Kenn Burrows from SFSU joins the discussion to talk about new paths in education. At the bottom of the hour we’ll turn our focus to academic freedom and how the corporate media frame and shape public perception on issues from education to ongoing controversial current events. We’ll speak with communications professor Dr. James Tracy about his recent writings on the Newtown shootings and the role of a free press; and attorney Robert Shibley of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education on broader issues addressing academic freedom and the First Amendment…But first the KPFA news headlines.

The FBI and Occupy Wall St. We’ll speak with investigative journalist Jason Leopold of Truthout regarding his FOIA requests and recent revelations that the FBI was not only monitoring the Occupy Wall St. movement over the past year, but was infiltrating with informants and possibly planning acts of violence against key OWS members. Also, Seth Rosenfeld, author of Subversives: The FBI’s War on Student Radicals and Reagan’s Rise to Power, joins the discussion to offer historical perspective and expand upon these most recent COINTELPRO-style developments.
