We are grappling with our own demagoguery at CSU Bakersfield in the form of President Horace Mitchell, who seems to believe the university is his own private piggy bank for sports development and hiring his burgeoning cadre of buddies at ridiculous administrator salaries. Meantime, many of our students are barely able to support themselves and will be lucky to pay off the debt they are occurring even if they are lucky enough to find a job once they graduate. The corruption at the CSU's is system wide. It is the only topic of conversation among the professors who gather at state functions where war stories take on a surprising familiarity. It all goes back to Good Ole Boy Charlie Reed, with that big Ed.D. in God knows what--P.E. or something?-- and all the smarts of a snake oil salesman.
