Ditching the Commons
Ditching the Commons: Water and Community– The River Project and Cotati Creek Critters are featured on listener-supported, free speech radio KPFA 94.1 Berkeley (online kpfa.org) 24 February, 8:00-9:00am, Pacific time (FINAL SHOW OF FUND DRIVE- we are offering the film Thirst and the book Water Matters).
“A vanguard of citizens, communities, farmers, and corporations are thinking about water in a new way,” water expert and author Sandra Postel writes.
Please join Project Censored’s Mickey Huff and Andy Roth (guest producer of this week’s program) for their weekly KPFA broadcast on Friday, 24 February 2012, featuring guests from two organizations on the vanguard of this new orientation to water.
Melanie Winter is founder and director of The River Project, a nonprofit organization that provides communities with the tools they need to reclaim their riverfront lands. The River Project has played an essential role in the creation of a new state park at Taylor Yard, once an abandoned and polluted rail yard on the edge of the Los Angeles River.
Jenny Blaker and Wade Belew represent the Cotati Creek Critters – literally a grassroots organization, dedicated to the restoration and stewardship of the upper reach of the Laguna de Santa Rosa — which has been designated a wetlands of international importance — in Sonoma County.
Broadcasting since 1949, KPFA 94.1 Berkeley is listener-supported, free speech radio.
