Reforming US Prisons and the Criminal-Justice System

April 6, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Monday, April 6, 5-6:30pm, HSS 306, San Francisco State University (No Cost)
With Michael Bien, leading class action, civil rights attorney who caused the state to acknowledge overcrowding in California’s prisons, and Jody Lewen, founder and executive director of the Prison University Project (PUP) at San Quentin.
What does prison and criminal-justice reform look like?  Join the conversation as we explore shifting from: stigmatizing language, crime-driven media, overzealous policing, mass incarceration, and a flawed criminal justice system… to restorative justice, rehabilitation and youth development programs—foregrounding the humanity and potential of people caught in the system.
This event is part of the Gandhi-King Season for Nonviolence (event flyer below, with more info for this and other events.
