Based on an article written by Shanti Rangwani, it has been said that milk is unhealthy. Although the government has declared milk essential to human health, there are underlying health issues about milk that have not been covered by the mainstream media. Milk labels claim it to be high in calcium and TV commercials say it prevents bone diseases such as osteoporosis. Even though Harvard studies on the contrary have showed an increase in osteoporosis and bone-breakage in people who consume milk, the USDA still requires the daily intake of milk in school lunch programs. It seems that milk is also a racial issue since almost ninety percent of African-Americans, most Latinos, Asians, and Southern Europeans lack the genes necessary to digest lactose which is the primary sugar in milk. Put aside the fact that milk may actually increase the risk of osteoporosis, it also exposes people to asthma, prostate cancer, and other degenerative diseases.
