On April 5, 2009, President Obama made a speech declaring “clearly and with conviction America’s commitment to seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons”. Exactly a year later, administration released the Nuclear Posture Review (NPR), which instead of pushing away from nuclear weapons, it appears that Obama’s policy is in fact putting more focus and effort into replacing and increasing nuclear weaponry.
Although the NPR is technically stating that they “foreswear new types of nuclear weapons, endorses further reductions in stockpile numbers, and limits role of nuclear weapons in the U.S. security posture”, they want to rebuild the nuclear weapons complex, which is called the “bombplex.”. The “bombplex” will be creating two new, oversized plutonium and uranium bomb plants. The capacity of the new “Bombplex” would only be needed if the U.S. was actually seeking to redesigned its new nuclear weapons
The new bombplex makes it clear to the world that the U.S. is planning to expand its nuclear weapons complex for decades to come.
