US military officials confirmed that US drones are flying of over Syria in intercept government and military communications to “make a case for widespread international response.” Growing concerns over the recent bombings in Damascus and Aleppo have raised concerns of al-Qaeda involvement in Syria. While fighting and assassinations continue to mount within Syrian borders, the Western Powers continue to aid and supply opposition forces in order to undermine the Assad regime and facilitate military intervention.
The Israeli daily Ha’aretz also reported that Syrian forces had captured 40 Turkish intelligence operatives working with the “opposition” inside Syria. It said the Turkish operatives confessed to working with the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad to train the US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA), and claimed that Mossad operatives were working with Al Qaeda operatives in Jordan planning operations in Syria.
Even as Western governments pose concern over civil war in Syria, NATO is actively fanning the flames of the conflict. John Mccain and Lindsey Graham called for arming Syrian rebels. Mccain feels that the US should arm the opposition with weapons indirectly by working through third world countries. Graham stated that it is important to break Syria apart from Iran by instilling a regime change. In a further sign of escalating risk of a wider war, an Iranian destroyer, along with an escorting supply ship docked at the Syrian port of Tartus.
