Republicans in the U.S. House of representatives are trying to eliminate all federal funding from Planned Parenthood. The issue will go before the Senate by the beginning of March. Republicans accused the organization of providing abortion services with Title X funding, which is not true because such centers have been providing evidence that such funding is not used for abortion services since 1976.
It is important to acknowledge that Title X Family Planning Program (part of the Public Health Service Act) was endorsed by Republican President Nixon in 1970. I believe that the issue should be put to rest because the Hyde Amendment (1976) prevented federal funding to be allocated to abortion services.
Republicans are choosing to ignore that Planned Parenthood provides different services to low-income men and women such as: preventive care, cancer screenings, contraceptive uses, and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. The Planned Parenthood Federation help prevent an estimated 612,000 unintended pregnancies every year.
